Royal Photographic Society Exhibition

Back
During April 2016 I have an exhibition entitled SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT at the Royal Photographic Society Headquarters in Bath

I have been fortunate to travel widely since retiring in 2006, often in Asia and Africa, but also elsewhere. It has struck me that while the packaging is often very different, the people inside are essentially the same. The media, especially in the UK, like to accentuate these differences, a line many seem to believe. I trust this exhibition portrays some of these similarities. These similarities are sometimes evident in gestures used to overcome the language barrier, but more often in the interaction between the people themselves, children particularly, though more especially parents with their young. The relationship with babies is the same throughout the World. The appearance and lifestyle of the tribal peoples in southern Ethiopia could not be more different from those of the average European, yet when interacting with them the similarities become very apparent, even their sense of humour.
