Mastuj is located about 50 km from the Afghan border in the far northwest of Pakistan. Most of the inhabitants are Ismaili Muslims, less strict in many ways than other Muslim sects. This family came out of their house and were happy to be photographed, although the elder women hid from view. Genetically there is evidence that the European looks are a result of the visit of Alexander the Greats army 2300 years ago.
